Catch super hot Korean band Super Junior?

Catch super hot Korean band Super Junior? By Kenny Chee

DYING to catch Korean boyband sensation Super Junior, the band behind hits such as U, and Sorry, Sorry? Now you can, right here in Singapore.

SingTel and Samsung are presenting the K-pop group’s first live performance in Singapore on Sunday.

Tickets to the private showcase being held at Marina Bay Sands are not for sale. However, each customer who buys the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone (above) will be given a pair of tickets, while stocks last.

The band, formed in 2005, is made up of 10 members (after changes to its line-up last year) but only nine will be here for the showcase.

Siwon, 23, will not make the show, as he recently had minor surgery on an inflamed salivary gland, said media reports.

The group also includes boyish Shindong, 24, whose upcoming nuptials are the subject of much talk, and Twitter addicts Shindong and Sungmin, both 24, and Donghae, 23.

So, where can you get your hands on the Samsung phone and tickets to this showcase? The phone, unveiled here last Thursday, can be ordered online at www.singtel.com/galaxyS.

From today, it can be purchased from SingTel stores or SingTel exclusive retailers.

Customers can also get the phone at a SingTel and Samsung road show at VivoCity, which is on from today to Sunday.

The Galaxy S is available only from SingTel with a contract, from no cost up to $768, depending on the subscription plan.

This is not the first time SingTel is bundling music with its products and services.

Last June, the telco partnered Universal Music and flew in American pop star Lady Gaga for a showcase at the launch of its AMPed unlimited-music download service.

Since then, the telco has linked its AMPed customers to other music acts, such as Keane and Wilber Pan, through autograph sessions and showcases.

Mr Yuen Kuan Moon, executive vice-president of SingTel’s consumer group, said that the telco decided to marry its mobile offerings with music-related events because music and mobile phones are part of its customers’ lives.

“The mobile phone has become an integral part of our lives, beyond basic communication and texting,” he said. “Increasingly, more customers are listening to music on the go.”

Weighing just 118g and only 9.9mm thick, the Samsung Galaxy S comes complete with Google’s Android 2.1 operating system.

The phone boasts a 4-inch touchscreen which, with its Super Amoled technology, reduces reflections even under sunlight.
